Addition using the Commutative Property: Number Bonds & Flip-flop Craft

1st Grade • 1 Lesson Plan
$2.00

Lesson Plan Description

First Grade 1-Hour math lesson addressing Operations and Algebraic Thinking: addition using the commutative property (1.OA.3). This lesson is best suited for students who have had previous exposure to the commutative property or using “flip-flop” facts. Students will participate in using a number bond mat to visually represent addition facts using counters. They will then create a commutative property craft displaying “flip-flop” facts on a flip-flop sandal.

Students will show the commutative property or “flip-flop facts” through objects and numbers, use number bonds to show the commutative property, create a craft to show number bonds and the commutative property or “flip-flop fact,” and use the words addends and sum when describing the commutative property.

**Purchasing both this 1 hour and the Math Bundle: Addition using the Commutative Property Bundle,” will result in duplicated content.
