Lesson Plan Description

This half day of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing Counting Objects; Classifying Data; and Patterning (K.CC.3) (K.MD.3) (Mathematical Practice 7) These lessons include the teacher reading a story to the students about a girl named Chrysanthemum, by Kevin Henkes.

  • Segment 1: Students will draw a chrysanthemum flower and write their name above their drawing.
  • Segment 2: Students will count the letters in their own names, find other students with the same number of letters in their names, and write the names of other students who have the same number of letters in their names.
  • Segment 3: Students will create an AB or ABB pattern.

These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
