Lesson Plan Description
This half day of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (25-60 minutes each) addressing several ELA standards using the picture book Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, by Kevin Henkes. Your students will enjoy a read aloud, practice letter/sound correspondence (Letter Pp),a character study, and a guided art lesson.
Segment 1: students will identify the sound of the letter Pp and find objects that represent the letter around the classroom and record those findings on a t-chart.
Segment 2: students will identify the characters in a story and discuss how the main character changes throughout the story.
Segment 3: students will create a connection chart to show about a time when they have felt like the character.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
