Lesson Plan Description
This fully scripted Kindergarten half day lesson plan is broken down into 2 separate segments (30-60 minutes each). This lesson addresses Geometry: Correctly name 2D shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size (K.G.2). This lesson includes: an introduction to the different 2D shapes, learning about edges and corners, describing shapes, and finding 2D shapes in everyday objects. This lesson includes an exit slip as an optional assessment component.
- Segment 1: Students will count the edges and corners of 2D shapes. They will describe the characteristics of the shape by looking at and feeling the shape. Students will also be able to identify the name of 2D shapes.
- Segment 2: Students will identify the name of 2D shapes in everyday objects.
Your students will also search for 2D shapes in everyday objects. Then, students will sort everyday objects into the correct 2D shape group.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
