Lesson Plan Description
This is a 1 hour ELA lesson plan addressing several ELA standards using an Informational Life Science text, “Winter Survival,” by Jennifer Kaul. These lessons include: close reading comprehension techniques (RI.3.1-3.4, & RI.3.8), practicing creating headings, writing a summary and a creative writing assignment. Students will create and use three headings to write a summary of the informational text. They will also create a graphic organizer and complete a narrative about their own winter survival.
It addresses Third Grade Life Science NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). LS2.C: Ecosystem Dynamics, Functioning, and Resilience When the environment changes in ways that affect a place’s physical characteristics, temperature, or availability of resources, some organisms survive and reproduce, others move to new locations, yet others move into the transformed environment, and some die. (secondary to 3-LS4-4)
