Lesson Plan Description
Fifth Grade 1 hour ELA lesson plan using an informational Earth Science text “Space Junk: Earth’s Unofficial Ring.” Your students will use close reading comprehension techniques (RI.5.1, RI.5.2, RI.5.3, RI.5.4, RI.5.6, & RI.5.8), independent analysis of a text, partner and group discussions, and creating a new layout for an informational text with a focus on text features. Students will create a new layout for the informational text that incorporates select text features.
The text used in this lessons addresses the NGSS: ESS3.C: Human Impacts on Earth Systems Human activities in agriculture, industry, and everyday life have had major effects on the land, vegetation, streams, ocean, air, and even outer space. But individuals and communities are doing things to help protect Earth’s resources and environments.
