Lesson Plan Description

This ELA & Math bundle contains:

ELA: This bundle of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (25-60 minutes each) addressing several ELA standards using the picture book Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, by Kevin Henkes. Your students will enjoy a read aloud, practice letter/sound correspondence (Letter Pp),a character study, and a guided art lesson.

  • Segment 1: students will identify the sound of the letter Pp and find objects that represent the letter around the classroom and record those findings on a t-chart.
  • Segment 2: students will identify the characters in a story and discuss how the main character changes throughout the story.
  • Segment 3: students will create a connection chart to show about a time when they have felt like the character.

These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.

Math: This bundle of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing Measurement & Data: sorting by different criteria, counting (K.MD.A.3, MD.B.4.A, MD.B.4.B, MDB.4.C, MD.C.6, MD.C.7). Students will enjoy a read aloud of “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse,” by Kevin Henkes, interactive sorting activities, play a sorting game, and create a t-chart to sort.

  • Segment 1: students will sort themselves using different criteria.
  • Segment 2: students will play a game of “Guess My Sort” with a partner and explain why they sorted their objects in a certain way.
  • Segment 3: students will create a t-chart and sort/draw purple and non-purple objects.

These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
