Lesson Plan Description
Second Grade half day of math lesson plans containing 2 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing Measurement and Data: measure to determine how much longer one object is than another, expressing the length difference in terms of a standard length unit (2.MD.4). These lessons include: students will practice estimating lengths, measuring to find exact lengths to the nearest whole unit, and comparing of two lengths. Students will then play the game “Go “Measure” Fish” to practice measuring and comparing lengths.
- Segment 1: students will measure objects to the nearest inch using a ruler.
- Segment 2: students will compare the length of 2 objects, describe the difference in length, and be able to explain that one object is ___ units longer than another.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
