Lesson Plan Description
This one hour math lesson addresses Operations & Algebraic Thinking: solving word problems with an unknown part requiring addition within 100 (2.OA.1). This lesson includes: steps of how to solve word problems, identifying important information in a word problem, use of pictures and tape diagrams/bar diagrams to solve addition problems, and explanation of thinking and strategies used to solve word problems. Students will read word problems and determine important information.Then they will determine the missing information they need to find to solve the word problems. Students will continue to use tape diagrams to help solve an addition word problem and write an equation to match.
