Lesson Plan Description
This fully scripted Kindergarten half day lesson plan is broken down into 2 separate segments (60 minutes each). These lessons address Numbers in Base Ten: compose and decompose numbers 11-19 into tens and ones (K.NBT.1.1). These lessons include: an introduction to bundling groups of 10 sticks together and classifying them as a ten, students will use place value mats to help them create a group of 10 and left over 1s. Students will practice this both as a whole group and with a partner. These lessons includes an exit slip as an optional assessment component. This lesson also contains 2 games and a craft to help your students practice the skill of grouping tens and ones.
- Segment 1: Students will bundle objects into groups of tens and ones. Students will count by tens and ones.
- Segment 2: Students will rotate to play 2 games and complete 1 activity. Students will count by tens and ones, guess a number in the teens by listening to clues about the number decomposed into tens and ones, and give clues about a number in the teens by decomposing the number into tens and ones.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
