Lesson Plan Description

Practice, practice, and more practice helps 3rd graders understand the “mental” math importance of rounding 3 digit numbers.  This 1 hour lesson provides multiple opportunities for figuring out with partners the nearest place value amount for 3 digit numbers.  Your students will:

  • Collaborate and process the “language of math” with partners
  • Practice place value by rounding 3 digit numbers to the nearest tens place with a vertical number line
  • Demonstrate their understanding by completing an exit ticket that will help you plan your next instructional steps
