Lesson Plan Description

This is a 1 hour, lightly scripted, Social Studies lesson, perfect for Kindergarten or 1st Grade students. It answers the Essential Question: What are the functions of a governing society?

Students will:

  • Learn what a community is and the people that help run it.
  • Create a community.
  • Write descriptive examples and draw pictures that describe the role of specific community helpers.

Addresses the Civics K-2 subject: Explain how all people, not just official leaders, play important roles in a community.
