Lesson Plan Description
Practice the academic language of math and have some fun teaching fractions to your 1st graders with bundle of 2 lessons. With multiple opportunities to draw and discuss the “why” of fractions, your students will:
- Segment 1: collaborate, use the “language” of math by discussing and playing with the “why” of fractions… split a whole into equal parts, identify which wholes are equally split in half, draw lines to divide shapes in half, shade ½ of an object.
- Segment 2: demonstrate their understanding by drawing shapes and dividing and decomposing them into equal parts
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
