Lesson Plan Description
This half day of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (25-60 minutes each) addressing several ELA standards using a read aloud of the informational text, “All About Chrysanthemums”, a closer looking activity for students to observe and draw inferences from photograph, identifying and using text features, and asking & answering questions about an informational text.
- Segment 1: students will ask and answer questions based on information in pictures. They will also engage in collaborative conversations by posing or responding to specific questions.
- Segment 2: students will use informational text features to understand the meanings of new words and define the role of an informational text author. In addition, they will know and use text features (e.g., bold print, title, subheadings, glossaries) to locate key facts or information in a text efficiently.
- Segment 3: students will ask and answer questions about key details in a text. They will identify the main topic and retell key details of a text.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
