  • game cards (1 set per group)
  • "Exit Slip" as an assessment component (1 copy per student)

Lesson Plan Description

This bundle of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing Numbers and Operations-Fractions: recognizing and generating equivalent fractions. These lessons included: key vocabulary, helpful notes for reference, generating and identifying fractions through both multiplication and division, guided and independent practice of concept, and a game to reinforce the concept of equivalent fractions.

  • Segment 1: collaborate with peers to practice the “language” of math and practice generating equivalent fractions through multiplication (n x a)/ (n x b)
  • Segment 2: continue to use the key math terms in order to generate equivalent fractions through division (a ÷ n) / (b ÷ n)
  • Segment 3: demonstrate their understanding of equivalency in fraction amounts by generating equivalent fractions using both multiplication and division as well as complete an exit slip to help you plan your next instructional steps

These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
