Lesson Plan Description
Do you have a small group or maybe even most of your students that need to “cement” their understanding of the critical math skill of place value? We did the planning for you with this interactive review or introduction lesson. Your students will:
- Collaborate with peers to practice the “language” of place value and attend to precision
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
- Write math “notes” to help them solve problems down the road
- Work with peers to review and recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, this digit represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right
- Identify the value of a number in multiple place values (for example: 500= 500 ones, or 50 tens, or 5 hundreds)
- Complete an exit slip to help you determine next instructional steps
