Lesson Plan Description

As math skills get increasingly more challenging, it becomes very apparent why it is so critical ton reinforce number sense and place value for our 3rd graders.  In this 1 hour lesson they will:

  • Collaborate with peers, practice the “language” of math and take “math” notes
  • Identify the value of the digits in order to add using the partial sums method and subtract using the decomposing method
  • Demonstrate their understanding of these skills by playing a game with open number lines to practice explaining value of digits and place values by adding and subtracting within 1000
