Lesson Plan Description

We learn when we make connections across different disciplines. This bundle of lessons give your students multiple ways to think and speak about number values, addition and subtraction and word problems.

Segment 1: draw a chrysanthemum flower and write their name above it as the basis for the math lesson
Segment 2: count letters in their names, categorize their name based on that number, and analyze data determining which names have more letters, less letters, or the same number of letters.
Segment 3: add and subtract using mental math strategies and solve addition word problems using different addition strategies like t-charts and number lines
Segment 4: practice a “real-life” application of mental math strategies while playing the game “Steal the Bacon”

These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
