Lesson Plan Description
This half day of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing Place Value Through the Hundred- Thousands Place: Value of Digits; Expanded Form (4.NBT.2a). These lessons include: key math vocabulary, helpful student notes for reference, guided and independent practice of concepts, and a game to reinforce the concept of Place Value.
- Segment 1: students will write numbers in expanded form through the hundred-thousands place, and use expanded form to explain place value through the hundred-thousands place.
- Segment 2: Students will read and write whole numbers through the hundred-thousands place, and use expanded form and place value to explain the value of digits through the
hundred-thousands place. - Segment 3: students will use place value knowledge of digits, their values, and expanded form to solve mystery numbers using clues.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
