Lesson Plan Description

This is a 1 hour, lightly scripted, Social Studies lesson, was written with third graders in mind, but can definitely work for 2nd graders as well.It answers the Essential Question: What are the functions of a governing society?

Students will:

  • Learn how local rules are created and their purpose.
  • Write a persuasive piece to establish a new rule for their classroom community.

Addresses the Civics 3-5 subject: Explain how groups of people make rules to create responsibilities and protect freedoms.
