Lesson Plan Description
Teaching 2nd graders to read with meaning and not “bark” at print can be challenging! In this 3 lesson bundle (30-60 minutes each) using the fable, “The Crow and the Pitcher” your multi-lingual learners experience supported and guided collaborative conversations using sentence frames in order to demonstrate their understanding of this complex text. Your students will:
Segment 1: ask and answer questions to determine the key details that support the who, what, where, when, why and how of a fable
Segment 2: recount the fable using writing and illustrations by creating a graphic novel
Segment 3: determine the lesson(s) of the fable using their graphic novels and key details from the text
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
