Lesson Plan Description
This half day of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing several ELA standards by reading an informational text on dolphins, practicing text features, main idea & details, and compound words.
- Segment 1: students will know and use text features (bold words, glossaries, captions, titles, & headings) to locate key facts or information from text efficiently.
- Segment 2: students will use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word, use and understand the text features: titles & headings, and identify the main topic of a multi-paragraph text.
- Segment 3: students will use knowledge of the meaning of individual words to predict the meaning of compound words.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
