Lesson Plan Description

Engage your students in a complex text series of lessons using an an autobiographical narrative text, “Our First Phone Call,” about a girl who is thrilled to get a home phone.

Your students will:

  • Move from the literal interpretation of literary text to evaluation and synthesis through strategic partner talk
  • Analyze a character using dialogue, actions, and thoughts
  • Determine the main events and sequential order
  • Create an illustration and explanation of a main event

These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
