Lesson Plan Description
This half day of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (25-60 minutes each) addressing several ELA standards using the picture book Recess Queen, by Alexis O’Neill . Your students will enjoy a read aloud, practice letter sound correspondence: Rr, inferencing about characters, and making personal connections.
- Segment 1: students will identify the sound of the letter Rr and find objects that represent the letter around the classroom and then record their findings on a t-chart.
- Segment 2: students will identify the main charter in the story, The Recess Queen, make inferences about the main character, and make connections to both the story and the character.
- Segment 3: students will create a book to give the main character of the story suggestions on how to change and be a better friend.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
