Lesson Plan Description

Many of us struggle solving complex word problems as adults.  This makes is even more paramount to practice the “how” and “why” of more simpler 2 step word problems with our 2nd graders.  In this 1 hour lesson your students will:

  • Practice following the steps of how to solve word problems
  • Identify important information in a word problem
  • Use pictures and tape diagrams/bar diagrams to solve addition problems
  • Collaborate with peers in order to explain the thinking and strategies used to solve word problems
