Lesson Plan Description
Building a solid number sense in regards to place value and decimals is an imperative foundational skill for 5th graders. Working with partners, taking notes along with multiple opportunities to explain and draw out their thinking, this 1 hour lesson will help build solid mathematical skills and practices. Your students will:
- Collaborate with peers to practice the “language” of math in strategic and purposeful partnerships and take “math” notes
- Solve equations that involve decimals to the hundredth value using models and drawings
- Explain the methodology and reasoning and construct their own viable arguments for the answers
- Demonstrate their understanding of the process by playing a game “Equation Dash”
- Complete an “exit ticket” to help drive your next instructional steps
