Description: Fractions get much more complicated in 4th grade....denominators now have 100!  Help your students practice the "language" of math in strategic partnerships and groups with this scripted lesson (60-90 minutes).  They will:

• Collaborate with peers to practice the "language" of fractions
  • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
  • Solve real-life word problems
• Identify and write fraction/decimal amounts using visual models (number lines and shaded grids)
• Apply these skills to real world applications utilizing meters, decimal and money amounts
• feature measuring with meters and connecting decimal amounts to money amounts. Tasks feature partner work, group work, and independent problem solving
• Complete an exit slip to help you determine next instructional steps

• Practice finding whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors
• Use strategies based on mental models, equations, rectangular arrays, properties of operations, and/or area models to solve problems
