Description: Do your 4th graders need a review or introduction of place value?  Gather important formative information to help determine what they already know and understand as well as what they need to learn.  In this 1 hour scripted lesson they will:

  • Collaborate with peers to practice the "language" of place value and attend to precision
    • Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
    • Practice taking strategic notes
  • Review and practice the language of place value, review and practice using place value to round whole numbers to the nearest 1,000, 10,000, and 100,000 on a vertical number line
  • Challenge themselves to solve different place value "problem" cards (each card has a varied difficulty level and point value) by moving around in pairs or groups)
