Description: Teaching place value and decimals to 5th graders can be challenging!  They need multiple opportunities to practice this key fundamental place value skill. In this interactive, engaging and scripted bundle of  lessons (30-60 minutes each) your students will:

• Introduce or review key vocabulary and concepts for whole numbers and decimals through the thousandths place
• Practice the "language" of place value and decimals in strategic, purposeful note-taking partnerships
• Recognize and develop an understanding that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 what it represents in the place to the left
• Demonstrate their understanding of these skills by playing a card game in pairs or small groups
• Complete an exit slip to help determine your next instructional steps

• Practice by working with 3 digit numbers and physically putting them in bundles in order to represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones.
• Demonstrate their understanding of 2 digit or 3 digit numbers using the "language" of place value by playing a mental math place value game "Steal the Bacon"
