Lesson Plan Description
Have fun with this 30-60 minute math lesson that includes an integrated read aloud of Mouse Shapes by Ellen Stol Walsh. Incorporated art and strategic collaborative partnerships, this lesson engages your 2nd graders in the “language” of geometry as well as the “facts” of geometric shapes. Your students will:
- Collaborate with peers to practice the “language” of geometry by identifying attributes of 2 dimensional shapes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided)
- Practice identifying defining attributes of 3 dimensional solid shapes (e.g.; cubes are 3 dimensional solids, with six faces, twelve edges, and eight vertices) in strategic partnerships
- Participate in an interactive read aloud of Mouse Shapes by Ellen Stol Walsh and create their own mouse out of shapes
