Lesson Plan Description

Building our students’ ability to infer, analyze and collaborate deepens in 2nd grade.  This bundle of 3 lessons (30-60 minutes each) will help you guide your little ones into the deeper thinking around informational text cultivates thoughtful questioning and discussion skills.  Your students will:

  • Segment 1: practice identifying and using text features (bold words, glossaries, captions, titles, & headings) to locate key facts or information from text efficiently.
  • Segment 2: use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word and collaborate to determine their own headings and title for the text
  • Segment 3: students will use knowledge of the meaning of individual words to predict the meaning of compound words.

These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
