Lesson Plan Description

Understanding fractions can be a difficult concept for 3rd graders. Practicing the skill often and in different ways, helps our students “cement” their understanding of place value and number sense. In the bundle of 3 lessons, your students will:

Segment 1: Collaborate with peers and practice the “language” of math while generating equivalent fractions using a visual model (shapes)
Segment 2: Practice locating and forming equivalent fractions using a number line
Segment 3: demonstrate their understanding of this skill by playing a game to compare and locate equivalent fractions (<, >, or =)

These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
