Lesson Plan Description

Developing a strong sense of number with our 5th graders is fundamental to demonstrating a “real” understanding of place value and decimals.  In this interactive lesson they will:

  • Introduce or Review key vocabulary and concepts for whole numbers and decimals through the thousandths place
  • Practice the “language” of place value and decimals in strategic, purposeful note-taking partnerships
  • Recognize and develop an understanding that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 what it represents in the place to the left
