Lesson Plan Description
This bundle of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing Numbers and Operations in Base Ten: Place Value Through the 100s Place. In these lessons students will participate in demonstrations of creating bundles of 10, identify values of digits on a place value chart, and play a mental math place value game.
- Segment 1: collaborate with partners, practice identifying that 100 can be thought of as a bundle of 10s called one hundred by sorting and counting
- Segment 2: continue the practice by working with 3 digit numbers and physically putting them in bundles in order to represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones.
- Segment 3: demonstrate their understanding of 2 digit or 3 digit numbers using the “language” of place value by playing a mental math place value game “Steal the Bacon”
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
