ELA:
Building our students’ ability to infer, analyze and collaborate can be challenging for sure. Help your students build strong collaborative habits through strategic and collaborative partnerships using the fable “The Crow and the Pitcher”. Your students will:
- Segment 1: students will ask and answer questions to determine the key details that support the who, what, where, when, why and how of a fable.
- Segment 2: students will recount the fable using writing and illustrations by creating a graphic novel.
- Segment 3: students will determine the lesson(s) of the fable using their graphic novels and key details from the text.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
Math:
This bundle of lesson plans is broken down into 3 separate segments (30-60 minutes each) addressing Numbers and Operations in Base Ten: Place Value Through the 100s Place. (2.NBT.1). In these lessons students will participate in demonstrations of creating bundles of 10, identify values of digits on a place value chart, and play a mental math place value game.
- Segment 1: students will understand that 100 can be thought of as a bundle of 10s called one hundred.
- Segment 2: students will understand that the three digits of a three-digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones.
- Segment 3: students will identify two-digit or three-digit numbers correctly based on verbal descriptions using place value terms.
These lessons can be taught over the span of a half day or you can use the lessons independently, broken up over several days.
