Lesson Plan Description
Understanding place value is a foundational skill for all our students. Numbers get larger and more complex in 4th grade. We need to know what they already know (asset-based) before we plan our lessons. This is the perfect lesson for that purpose! Your students will:
- Collaborate with peers to practice the “language” of place value and attend to precision
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
- Practice taking strategic notes
- Review and practice the language of place value, review and practice using place value to round whole numbers to the nearest 1,000, 10,000, and 100,000 on a vertical number line
- Challenge themselves to solve different place value “problem” cards (each card has a varied difficulty level and point value) by moving around in pairs or groups)
