Lesson Plan Description

Need a quick lesson to practice measurement with your students? Students should have a basic understanding of measuring to half and quarter inches to complete this lesson. This lesson does not provide instruction on reading a ruler, rather it is a hands on application of the skill. Working in collaborative partnerships to practice key academic vocabulary, your 3rd graders will:

Collaborate with peers and practice the “language” of measurement, take math “notes”
Create a line plot with a horizontal scale marked off in whole number, half, or quarter units and gather measurement data using objects around the room
